Albino Motoro Stingray

The albino Potamotrygon motoro is a captive-bred colour mutation lacking normal melanin production. The disc is pale cream to white with faint yellow ocelli and reduced overall pigmentation; the eyes are typically pink-red. It is produced by dedicated breeders, primarily in Asia and Europe, through selective pairing of heterozygous carriers. Albino rays require the same exacting care as standard P. motoro, including pristine water quality, fine sand substrate, and a carnivore diet. UV radiation sensitivity may be slightly elevated compared to wild-type individuals, so excessively bright lighting should be avoided. Its striking white colouration makes it one of the most photographed freshwater stingrays in the hobby and commands a premium consistent with its rarity and the difficulty of reliably producing albino offspring in viviparous species.
