Albino Weather Loach

The Albino Weather Loach is a true albino form of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, displaying a pinkish-white to cream body with red eyes and translucent fins. Bred in aquaculture facilities across Asia and Europe, it is widely available and makes an excellent, low-maintenance addition to coldwater and temperate aquaria. Its albinism in no way diminishes its vigour or lifespan.

Like all dojo loaches, the Albino Weather Loach is famous for its barometric activity — becoming extremely animated prior to weather changes. It is also notably interactive with its keeper, readily approaching the front of the tank at feeding time and learning to associate the keeper's presence with food. Groups of two or three show the most engaging social interactions.

Care requires cool, clean water, a secure lid, and fine substrate for burrowing. The species is omnivorous and accepts almost any food offered. A long-lived, rewarding fish for all levels of aquarist, the Albino Weather Loach is particularly popular for goldfish setups and pond-to-aquarium winter holding tanks.
