Alder Cone Extract 100ml

Alder cones (Alnus glutinosa) are a staple botanical in the shrimp-keeping hobby, prized for their tannins, organic acids, and humic compounds. This liquid extract captures the active components of dried alder cones in a standardised, measurable dose — eliminating the inconsistency of using raw cones and the white fungal bloom they sometimes produce.

The extract provides tannins that inhibit gram-positive bacteria and fungi, mildly acidify and soften water, and contribute to the dimly lit, tannin-stained environment that many shrimp and small fish species naturally inhabit. Shrimp keepers report improved moults, reduced fungal infections, and enhanced breeding behaviour when alder cone extract is used consistently.

For planted tanks the organic acids complement humic acid supplementation and contribute to a biologically rich water column. The 100ml bottle treats 2,000–3,000 litres at standard dosing.
