Alestes Baremoze

Alestes baremoze is a wide-ranging, large African tetra found throughout the Nile, Chad, Senegal, and Niger river systems, occupying open-water habitats with strong current. In peak condition, males display an attractive reddish flush in the caudal fin and an intensely iridescent silver body that flashes brilliantly under strong lighting.

Due to its size and activity level, this species demands large aquariums of at least 400 litres with excellent filtration and high dissolved oxygen. It is best kept in groups of six or more alongside other robust African fish. Smaller tankmates risk being consumed or bullied.

Alestes baremoze is an enthusiastic feeder accepting most foods, with a preference for protein-rich items. Regular water changes and a high-flow environment are key to long-term health. This species can live well over a decade in optimal conditions, making it a long-term commitment for large-tank enthusiasts.
