Amazon Blackwater Biotope Soil (3L)

Amazon blackwater biotope soil is formulated to recreate the distinctive substrate conditions found in the Rio Negro, Tapajós, and other tannin-stained Amazon river systems. The dark, fine-grain soil contains natural organic matter and humic compounds that gently lower pH into the acidic range of 5.5–6.5 while releasing tannins that gradually tint the water with the characteristic amber hue of blackwater environments.

This combination of soft, acidic water and dark substrate is the natural habitat of wild discus, cardinal tetras, altum angelfish, apistogramma, and hundreds of other species that display their best colouration and breeding behaviour under these conditions. The biotope soil is processed and sterilised for aquarium use while preserving its natural chemical activity.
