Antenna Stingray

Potamotrygon schroederi is distributed across the Orinoco and upper Rio Negro drainages in Venezuela and Colombia, inhabiting blackwater environments with very soft, highly acidic water. Its disc is pale to medium grey or brown, peppered with fine dark spots that may coalesce into faint rosette-like clusters in some individuals. In captivity it requires the most acidic and softest water of any commonly traded potamotrygonid, reflecting the extreme blackwater conditions of its natural habitat. This species can be particularly sensitive during acclimatisation and demands exceptionally stable, low-TDS water. It is rarely bred in captivity and commands premium prices. Advanced stingray keepers who can provide blackwater conditions will find it one of the most rewarding challenges in the hobby.
