Anubias barteri var. barteri

Anubias barteri var. barteri is native to the shaded riverbanks and stream margins of West Africa, where it grows both submerged and emergent. Its thick, leathery, spade-shaped leaves are virtually indestructible under normal aquarium conditions — resistant to herbivorous fish and tolerant of very low light. It attaches readily to driftwood and rock via a creeping rhizome, making it ideal as a large structural accent in aquascapes or as the dominant plant in a low-maintenance paludarium. Under good conditions it produces small white spadix flowers.
