Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite'

Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite' is a miniaturised cultivar of Anubias nana, itself already a compact variety, producing leaves rarely exceeding 1–2 cm in length. It was popularised in the hobby through tissue culture production and rapidly became a staple foreground plant for nano aquascaping. Its tiny scale is perfectly suited to pico and nano tanks of 5–30 litres, or for creating intricate detail on small stones and twigs in larger layouts.

Despite its diminutive size it carries all the hardy characteristics of the Anubias genus — tolerating low light, a wide pH range, and infrequent fertilisation with ease. The rhizome creeps slowly across whatever surface it is attached to, eventually forming dense, jewel-like carpets of miniature leaves.

Algae growth on the leaves can be managed with Nerite snails, which are perfectly sized for cleaning small Anubias leaves without damage. CO2 is not necessary but provides a slight growth boost. Propagation by rhizome division is straightforward once the plant has established.
