API Proper pH 7.0 is a convenient all-in-one water-preparation powder that adjusts aquarium pH to a neutral 7.0 and holds it there, while also conditioning tap water by removing chlorine and binding heavy metals. This makes it a practical single-product solution for community fish-keepers who want stable neutral water without managing multiple products.

The buffering action of Proper pH 7.0 works by establishing a phosphate buffer system at pH 7.0. This means that even if acidic or alkaline compounds are introduced — such as through fish waste, driftwood tannins, or lime-leaching rocks — the buffer resists the shift and pulls pH back toward neutral.

It is available in different pH setpoint versions (6.5, 7.0, 7.5) to suit different communities; the 7.0 formulation is the most universally applicable.
