API Quick Start

API Quick Start contains a suspension of live Nitrospira and Nitrosomonas bacteria — the two principal genera responsible for the two-step nitrification of ammonia to nitrite to nitrate in the aquarium nitrogen cycle. By introducing established, active bacterial cultures directly to a new tank, Quick Start dramatically reduces or eliminates the traditional multi-week cycling wait.

API's formulation claims fish can be safely introduced on the same day the product is used, provided full recommended doses are applied. This is supported by the inclusion of both ammonia-oxidising and nitrite-oxidising bacteria, meaning both steps of the cycle are seeded simultaneously rather than requiring the second population to establish naturally after the first.

Quick Start is also valuable for re-seeding filters after antibiotic treatments, thorough filter cleaning, or any event that depletes beneficial bacteria populations.
