Aponogeton madagascariensis

Aponogeton madagascariensis is endemic to Madagascar and is without question one of the most spectacular plants in the planted aquarium hobby. Rather than solid leaf blades, it produces translucent, lattice-like leaves where only the venation remains, creating a ghostly, filigree structure of extraordinary beauty. It is challenging to keep: it requires soft, slightly acidic, well-oxygenated, nutrient-poor water, cooler temperatures, and a mandatory dormancy period. However, for dedicated aquarists willing to meet its demands, it is an unforgettable centrepiece.
