Aquarium salt (pure sodium chloride, free from additives like iodine or anti-caking agents) has long been used as a versatile tool in freshwater fishkeeping for its multiple physiological benefits to fish. It aids osmoregulation by reducing osmotic pressure on injured or stressed fish, promotes slime coat production, and can inhibit certain external parasites and bacterial pathogens through osmotic action. In sick bay or quarantine tanks, a concentration of 1-3 grams per liter is typically used for supportive therapy alongside other treatments. Not recommended for planted tanks or sensitive invertebrates at therapeutic doses. Dissolve thoroughly before adding to the tank.
