Arulius Barb Longfin

Dawkinsia arulius is a well-established Indian barb known in both standard and longfin forms. The standard fish already impresses with its four sharp vertical black bars on a bright silver body, but the longfin strain elevates this with extended dorsal, ventral, and caudal fin rays in males that can approach the body length. Under aquarium lighting the combination of crisp patterning and flowing fins is superb.

Longfin Arulius Barbs share the same care requirements as the standard form: moderate to warm tropical temperatures, clean well-oxygenated water, and ample space for schooling. Because the extended fins can occasionally attract fin-nipping tankmates, companions should be chosen carefully. Within a group of five or more the fish are relaxed and display confidently.

Feeding is straightforward — these barbs take quality pellets, flake, frozen bloodworm, and brine shrimp eagerly. Their extended fins are somewhat fragile and benefit from tanks with rounded or smooth decor to prevent snagging and tearing.
