Aulonocara sp. 'Masinje'

Aulonocara sp. 'Masinje' is a rarely exported deep-water Peacock form collected from the Masinje site on Lake Malawi. Males in breeding condition display a distinctive powder-blue base color — softer and more diffuse than the intense cobalt of many other Peacock forms — with subtle yellow highlights along the dorsal and anal fin margins. The overall effect is elegant and understated.

The deep-water origin of this form means it appreciates slightly cooler temperatures toward the lower end of the Malawi range and excellent oxygenation. Water quality must be pristine, as deep-water fish are typically less tolerant of poor conditions than their shallow-water relatives. This makes the Masinje Peacock a slightly more demanding species, best suited to keepers with stable, well-maintained systems.

Maternal mouthbrooder. Females are dull grey. A rare and rewarding species for the collector seeking unusual and infrequently available Aulonocara locality forms.
