Aulonocara sp. 'Stuartgranti Maulana'

Aulonocara sp. 'Stuartgranti Maulana' is one of the most color-contrasting Butterfly Peacock locality forms. The Maulana form is distinguished by males displaying a rich golden-yellow anterior body — covering the head, pectoral region, and front third of the body — that transitions sharply into a deep royal blue posterior half. This two-tone split is among the most dramatic seen in the Aulonocara stuartgranti complex.

Sourced from the Maulana locality on Lake Malawi's coast, this form is less commonly available in the trade than the Chipoka or Ngara forms, making it a desirable find. Care requirements are identical to other Butterfly Peacocks: fine sand, pristine alkaline water, and compatible peaceable tankmates.

Maternal mouthbrooder. Females are dull silver-grey. Males are mildly aggressive toward other male Aulonocara but generally coexist peacefully in large, well-decorated tanks. Breeds readily with appropriate conditioning.
