Aureus Pristobrycon

Pristobrycon aureus inhabits the Orinoco and Amazon basins and is distinguished within the genus by a distinctive golden wash on its silver flanks that deepens to a warm amber in well-conditioned adults. Its multicuspid teeth reflect an omnivorous strategy, consuming fish, invertebrates, seeds, and plant matter depending on seasonal availability.

Relative to Pygocentrus or Serrasalmus, P. aureus is less overtly aggressive and can be considered for small species groups in appropriate setups. It offers the visual intrigue of a piranha with marginally more flexibility in diet and housing management, though it remains a species for experienced keepers only.
