The Sumatran form of Auriglobus modestus presents slightly deeper and more saturated golden-amber colouration compared to Bornean specimens, likely reflecting the tannin-rich, softer waters typical of Sumatran lowland river systems. Imported Sumatran specimens are occasionally distinguishable by a warmer gold tone and marginally more visible faint dorsal shading. Like all Auriglobus modestus, this is an active mid-water swimmer rather than a benthic ambush predator, making it more dynamic and visible in the aquarium than many puffer relatives. The setup should provide both open swimming lanes and planted refuges along the perimeter. Soft, slightly acidic water matching Sumatran blackwater river chemistry gives best long-term colouration and health outcomes.
