Bailey's Pacu

Tometes baileyi inhabits the fast-flowing rapids and rocky outcrops of the Rio Tapajós in Brazil, where it grazes aquatic plants and algae encrusting submerged rocks. It is considered one of the most endangered serrasalmids due to dam construction in its native range and is rarely seen in specialist collections.

In the aquarium it requires high water flow, well-oxygenated conditions, and a predominantly plant-based diet. Its large adult size and specialist requirements make it suitable only for the most committed keepers. Acquisition should only ever be through verified legal and sustainable channels.
