Barbus annectens

Barbus annectens is distributed across river systems draining the Congo basin in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring countries, where it inhabits slow to moderately flowing rivers, flooded grasslands, and lake margins. Its body is moderately deep and compressed, with large, clearly defined scales that create an attractive reticulated pattern under aquarium lighting.

In captivity this species adapts well to standard tropical water conditions and is undemanding regarding water chemistry. It is a true schooling fish; groups of six or more exhibit synchronised, sweeping school formations that are visually impressive in larger aquariums. It coexists peacefully with a wide range of community fish.

Barbus annectens is an opportunistic omnivore that prospers on a varied diet of quality flake, pellets, frozen bloodworm, and daphnia. Regular water changes and good filtration maintain it in optimal condition. Its peaceful temperament and adaptability make it an excellent subject for Congo basin biotope displays.
