Bimaculated Astyanax

Astyanax bimaculatus, the Two-spot Astyanax, is among the most widely distributed South American characins, ranging from Venezuela to Argentina. Its silver body bears two clearly defined dark spots — one at the shoulder and one at the caudal peduncle — creating a clean, symmetrical pattern. A robust and highly adaptable species, it tolerates a wide range of water conditions including harder, more alkaline water that many tetras cannot handle. Best kept in spacious aquariums of 150 L or more where it can form impressive schools. It makes an excellent, active companion for medium South American cichlids and other large community fish.
