Blosyrus Badis

Badis blosyrus is a lesser-known member of the Badidae from the hill streams and forest pools of northeastern India. It displays the genus' characteristic cryptic patterning — a complex reticulate network of dark brown lines over a pale yellowish-tan base, with flashes of blue-green iridescence in the scales of displaying males. It is somewhat larger and more robustly built than the smallest badis species.

Successful husbandry mirrors that of other badis: a quiet, planted aquarium with caves, poor competition from tankmates, and a diet of live or frozen small invertebrates. This species is particularly secretive and may rarely be seen during daylight hours, making it best appreciated in a dedicated setup where it can be the star attraction rather than a background dweller.

Cave-spawning with paternal guarding is typical. Males aggressively defend the spawning site and will fan and tend eggs until they hatch. Fry must be fed live micro-foods for the first ten days.
