Blyxa novoguineensis

Blyxa novoguineensis is native to New Guinea, inhabiting warm, soft-water streams and wetlands. It is the largest of the commonly cultivated Blyxa species, producing rosettes of long, narrow, grass-like leaves that can reach 50 cm and display a distinctive reddish to bronze tint along their length under bright light and CO2 supplementation. This makes it one of the boldest and most visually striking Blyxa species, suitable for midground positions in larger tanks or as a background accent in smaller high-tech setups. It requires similar care to B. aubertii but grows larger and produces more vivid colour, making it a rewarding challenge for experienced planted aquarium enthusiasts.
