Boeseman's Stingray

Potamotrygon boesemani is native to the Suriname River drainage of Suriname, South America, where it inhabits sandy substrates in warm, blackwater-influenced rivers. Its pale yellowish disc is covered in dense brown reticular markings and scattered small ocelli, creating a complex interlocking pattern that varies between individuals. It is one of the less frequently imported Potamotrygon species, and captive husbandry data remain limited compared to commonly traded species such as P. motoro. Requirements are broadly similar to other potamotrygonids: pristine, warm, soft, acidic water with zero ammonia and nitrite tolerance. Its rarity in the trade means captive-bred specimens are especially valued and owners are encouraged to participate in cooperative breeding programmes.
