Bonita Tetra

Moenkhausia bonita is native to the Rio Paraguai and its tributaries in Brazil and Bolivia. As its scientific name suggests, it is genuinely beautiful: the silver flanks carry a subtle rose-pink tint, each scale is finely edged in darker pigment creating a reticulated pattern, and the fins display warm amber colouration. It is a species that rewards close observation.

This is an easy, accommodating community tetra that adapts well to a wide range of water parameters. It schools actively in groups of eight or more and is entirely peaceful toward all tank mates. In a well-planted aquarium with a dark substrate its understated beauty really stands out.

Feeding with quality flake, micro-pellets, and occasional frozen invertebrates maintains peak health. This species deserves far more attention than it currently receives in the hobby.
