Bony-tongue Arawana

The trade name Bony-tongue Arawana refers to members of the family Osteoglossidae — most commonly Osteoglossum bicirrhosum (Silver Arowana) or related species — highlighting their defining anatomical feature: a toothed tongue that occludes against a toothed palate to grip prey. This is the ancestral feature that defines the entire order Osteoglossiformes, one of the oldest lineages of bony fish, dating back over 100 million years. Care requirements mirror those of the Silver Arowana: pristine water, a very large long aquarium with a tight-fitting lid, and a diet of large meaty prey. Sold as captive-bred juveniles.
