Brachypetersius Altus

Brachypetersius altus is a distinctly deep-bodied African tetra from the Congo River basin, recognisable by its notably elevated back profile that gives the fish an almost diamond-shaped silhouette when viewed from the side. The silver body catches light brilliantly, and the reddish-orange caudal fin lobes add a vivid accent in well-lit aquariums.

This species is best kept in groups of eight or more in a moderately sized aquarium with open swimming space and a planted background. It is hardy and adaptable compared to many Congo basin tetras, tolerating a wider range of water conditions as long as extremes are avoided. Good filtration and regular water changes are still recommended.

Brachypetersius altus readily accepts most aquarium foods and is not finicky. It coexists well with other medium-sized peaceful African fish and makes an attractive schooling species for Congo-themed community displays.
