Bronze Puffer

Auriglobus nefastus is the most boldly patterned of the three Auriglobus species, bearing a dark reticulated network over a bronzed-gold background that gives it a richer, more contrasted appearance than A. modestus. It is found in rivers of Borneo and Sumatra and, like its congener, is an active mid-water swimmer rather than a benthic ambusher. It is equally aggressive toward tankmates and requires the same specialist setup of clean water, good flow, and hard prey items for beak maintenance. It can be distinguished in the trade by the clearly visible dark reticulations that form a net-like pattern across its flanks. Water quality must be excellent; any elevation in dissolved waste compounds quickly causes stress and colour fading.
