Bucephalandra 'Godzilla'

Bucephalandra 'Godzilla' is aptly named — for a genus characterised by small, jewel-like plants, this cultivar's broad, imposing leaves are genuinely oversized, reaching 8–12 cm in length on a robust rhizome that can span 15 cm or more. The leaf surface is slightly textured and displays strong iridescent highlights across its entire breadth, making each leaf a conspicuous visual feature in the aquarium.

Despite its size for the genus, 'Godzilla' shares the same essential care requirements as smaller Bucephalandra — soft slightly acidic water preferred, CO2 beneficial, medium light recommended, rhizome attached to hardscape. The larger leaf area does make it slightly more prone to algae colonisation, so adequate water flow and Nerite snails are useful companions.

In aquascape design, 'Godzilla' fills the niche of a bold-leafed midground or background epiphyte — a role usually occupied by Anubias barteri forms — but with the added iridescent quality unique to Bucephalandra. It is a standout species for large planted tanks seeking visual weight without height.
