Bucephalandra 'Kapit'

Bucephalandra 'Kapit' is collected from the rivers around Kapit in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, and is one of the regionally named Bucephalandra varieties that helped introduce Western hobbyists to the extraordinary diversity of this genus. Its medium-sized leaves are slightly wavy at the margins with a surface that transitions between blue-green and teal depending on the light angle, a colouration distinct from the bluer Kedagang or darker Brownie group.

In terms of care, 'Kapit' is a representative mid-difficulty Bucephalandra — more responsive to good conditions than the most robust varieties like 'Wavy Green', but less demanding than the rarest collector forms. CO2 is beneficial, soft-to-moderately-hard water is acceptable, and medium light produces the best leaf colour and production rate.

It is an excellent choice for aquascapers building a varied Bucephalandra collection, contributing a distinctive teal-blue iridescence that differs clearly from the deeper blue of 'Kedagang' or the near-black of the Brownie Phantom. It looks superb mounted on grey or brown river stones.
