Bucephalandra 'Marble' is a variegated cultivar that brings the visual drama of white marbling to the already impressive Bucephalandra genus. Each leaf is patterned differently — some display bold white sectors, others fine cream veining or speckled marbling — making no two leaves identical. The combination of green base colour, white patterning, and the genus's characteristic iridescence creates a three-layered visual effect unique in the aquatic plant world.
Variegated Bucephalandra are among the most challenging to maintain in stable, attractive condition. The marbling is a chimeric trait and occasional all-green or all-white shoots may appear; all-green shoots should be removed to preserve the variegated character. All-white shoots lack sufficient chlorophyll and will eventually deteriorate. Maintaining a balance of variegated tissue is the key management task.
Care requires soft, slightly acidic water, CO2 supplementation, and medium light — the same premium conditions needed by high-end Anubias variegated cultivars. Under these conditions the marble patterning is vivid and consistent. 'Marble' is best treated as a centrepiece specimen in a dedicated low-tech setup or a premium planted aquascape.
