Bucephalandra pygmaea

Bucephalandra pygmaea is among the smallest members of the genus, producing tiny, rounded to spatulate leaves that rarely exceed 1–2 cm in length. Despite its diminutive size, the leaves display the characteristic Bucephalandra iridescence — a subtle blue, silver, or white sheen that catches light beautifully — making this an exceptionally attractive micro-scale epiphyte. It grows on a slender, slowly creeping rhizome that can be attached to fine pieces of driftwood, smooth pebbles, or even aquarium glass.

This species is ideal for nano tanks under 30 litres, pico aquascapes, and the detailed foreground zones of larger nature-style layouts. Its slow growth and tiny stature mean it stays tidy for extended periods. Like all Bucephalandra, it prefers soft, slightly acidic water, though it will adapt to moderately hard conditions over time. Small white spadix flowers are produced occasionally, lending it additional charm. It is a highly sought-after collector's plant.
