Calmoni Pristobrycon

Pristobrycon calmoni inhabits the Orinoco and Amazon river systems and represents an intermediate stage in the dietary evolution of the Serrasalmidae, possessing teeth designed for both flesh and plant matter. It displays an attractive pattern of dark spots on a silver body that becomes more pronounced in well-conditioned adults.

In captivity it is less aggressive than true piranhas but still requires careful management. A group of three to five individuals reduces individual aggression and promotes more natural behaviour. Its intermediate dietary needs allow greater variety in feeding than obligate carnivores.
