Ceramic Breeding Cave

Cave-spawning fish require an enclosed, defensible space with a single small entrance. The Ceramic Breeding Cave provides exactly this: a hollow chamber with a 3cm entrance aperture that is large enough to admit the target fish but small enough to deter larger tank mates and predators. The inner chamber is smooth enough to allow egg adhesion but not so polished that the female cannot grip the surface during spawning.

Unglazed ceramic is chemically inert, does not affect water parameters, and develops a natural biofilm coating over time that many cave-spawning species seem to prefer over artificial plastic alternatives. The cave is suitable for a wide range of species including Apistogramma, Nanochromis, Corydoras, Ancistrus, and small Tanganyikan shell dwellers. Multiple caves can be used in a single tank to provide choice.
