Chagresi Pimelodella

Pimelodella chagresi ranges from Panama through Colombia and Venezuela and into northern South America. Its slim, silvery body bears a prominent dark lateral stripe running from the snout to the caudal fin base, and its barbels are exceptionally long relative to body size, lending it an elegant, almost comical appearance.

In the aquarium this species is peaceful, active, and tolerant of a wide range of water parameters, making it one of the most accessible small pimelodids for general aquarists. It is equally at home in a South American biotope or a general community setup, provided the tankmates are not aggressive.

The Chagresi Pimelodella prefers subdued lighting and hiding spots but will readily venture into open water at feeding time. It is an undemanding, rewarding catfish for keepers seeking something a little different from the ubiquitous cory.
