Christy's Microsynodontis

Microsynodontis christyi is a second nano-sized mochokid in the Microsynodontis genus, native to Central African forest stream systems. Like its close relative M. batesii it is a tiny fish reaching only about 5 cm, but can be distinguished by subtly different fin proportions, barbel length and the arrangement of its fine spotting pattern on careful examination.

In the aquarium it requires virtually identical conditions to M. batesii: soft, slightly acidic water, leaf litter, low flow and a diet of small particle foods. It is a secretive, peaceful species that thrives in groups and is rarely seen alone in open water, preferring to move through leaf litter and root tangles where it feels secure.

Both Microsynodontis species are suited to dedicated nano blackwater setups where they can be maintained alongside similarly sized West and Central African micro-fauna.
