The Clown Rasbora is one of the most visually impressive members of its genus, growing to approximately 10 cm and displaying a rich, warm body coloration — ranging from silvery-pink to deep rose depending on condition and lighting — highlighted by two large, bold dark spots, one behind the pectoral fins and one at the caudal peduncle. This combination of size, color, and bold markings makes it a truly eye-catching species in the aquarium. Native to the blackwater peat swamp forests of the Malay Peninsula and Borneo, the Clown Rasbora is accustomed to extremely soft, acidic water with very low mineral content and significant tannin staining. It is in these conditions that it shows its richest coloration and most confident behavior. In harder, more alkaline water its colors fade and it may become shy and stress-prone, which is why intermediate experience is recommended. The Clown Rasbora is peaceful, causing no harm to tankmates, but its size means smaller nano fish may be intimidated. In a school of six or more, it is a bold, active, and spectacular centerpiece fish for a blackwater biotope aquarium. It accepts most foods readily.
