Coarse Coral Sand (5kg)

Coarse coral sand offers the same pH-buffering chemistry as fine coral sand but with larger particle sizes that create superior interstitial water flow, reducing the risk of hydrogen sulphide accumulation in deep substrate beds. This makes it particularly suitable for large African cichlid displays and marine fish systems where significant biological waste is produced.

The coarser texture also stands up to the vigorous digging behaviour of mbuna, frontosa, and other substrate-disturbing cichlid species without creating dust clouds. The rough calcium carbonate surfaces provide additional colonisation area for nitrifying bacteria, contributing to overall biological filtration capacity. Five kilograms covers approximately 40 × 30 cm at a 3–4 cm depth.
