Colombo Bacto Start

Colombo Bacto Start is a live bacterial supplement designed to rapidly colonise new filter media with nitrifying bacteria, establishing the biological filter faster than allowing natural seeding to occur. A functioning nitrogen cycle is essential for fish survival in any aquarium, and Bacto Start reduces the risk of ammonia and nitrite poisoning in newly set-up tanks by providing a ready supply of active nitrifiers.

The product is also recommended when adding new filter media to an existing aquarium, after thorough cleaning of filter sponges, or after antibiotic treatments that deplete biological populations. Colombo's formulation is shelf-stable and effective across the typical pH and temperature ranges of freshwater aquariums.

Bacto Start is best used alongside a quality water conditioner such as Colombo Biostabil to ensure tap-water chlorine does not kill the introduced bacteria.
