Gastromyzon ctenocephalus is named for the comb-like ridges across its broad head, a feature unique among hillstream loaches and hypothesised to aid in turbulent-water flow sensing. Native to the fast-flowing rivers of Sarawak, it demands pristine, cool water with strong current and is best reserved for dedicated hillstream biotopes managed by experienced aquarists. Its spotted body pattern provides excellent cryptic camouflage on riverbeds.
