Congo Puffer (Leopard Form)

The leopard form of Tetraodon miurus displays bold, high-contrast black-and-cream circular spots on a pale background, making it one of the most visually arresting colour morphs of the species. Like all T. miurus it is a highly specialised ambush predator that buries itself completely in sand substrate with only its eyes exposed, then strikes at passing prey with explosive speed. The aquarium must provide at least 8 cm of fine sand to allow full burial. Water quality must be outstanding as this benthic species is in constant contact with substrate that accumulates detritus. Live foods such as earthworms and ghost shrimp trigger the best feeding response, though frozen items are accepted by established specimens. Absolutely no tankmates are compatible.
