Copadichromis mloto 'Likoma'

Copadichromis mloto 'Likoma' is the Likoma Island locality form of the Mloto Hap, widely regarded as one of the most dramatically colored Copadichromis species. Males display a striking three-part coloration: a warm yellow head and anterior body, a deep cobalt-blue posterior body, and a bold white blaze across the forehead — a combination that produces one of the most eye-catching color patterns among utaka cichlids.

The Likoma Island form is particularly sought after because the yellow on the head is more intense and extends further posteriorly than in other C. mloto forms. This species is a plankton-feeding open-water swimmer and benefits from a large, open water column. It is peaceful and works well in large mixed Malawi communities.

Maternal mouthbrooder. Females are silver-grey. Best kept in groups of five or more to allow natural display behavior and reduce per-individual male aggression. One of the most popular utaka cichlids in the European hobby.
