Dangila Danio

Danio dangila is a robust and distinctive species from the river systems of India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Unlike most danios it possesses prominent rostral barbels — whisker-like sensory organs near the mouth — that give it an unusual appearance compared to the clean-faced Zebra or Pearl Danio. Its fins are often tinged with orange or gold, adding a warm accent to a silver-blue body.

As one of the larger Danio species, reaching up to 10 cm, it requires a more spacious aquarium than the typical nano danio. It prefers cooler water in the 18–24°C range and appreciates good water movement. A group of six or more will form an impressive, fast-moving school in a community tank.

Dangila Danios coexist peacefully with other medium-sized cyprinids, barbs, and loaches. Their hardy constitution and relatively undemanding care requirements make them accessible to hobbyists who want a larger, more impactful schooling fish without the challenges of specialist species.
