Capoeta fusca is endemic to the river drainages of the central Iranian plateau, including the Namak Lake basin and nearby endorheic systems. Its common name 'fusca' (meaning dusky or dark brown) refers to its body colouration — darker overall than many Capoeta species, with a brownish-olive dorsal surface and yellowish belly. It is a medium-to-large barb adapted to the cool, often mineral-rich rivers of inland Iran.

In the aquarium, Capoeta fusca needs cool water and good oxygenation. It tolerates hard, alkaline conditions typical of the Iranian plateau and does not do well in warm tropical setups. A spacious tank with moderate current, rocky substrate, and some plant cover suits it well. Groups of six or more allow natural schooling behaviour.

Diet in the wild is omnivorous with a strong plant matter component. In captivity, spirulina wafers, algae-based sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and sinking omnivore pellets are all consumed. Occasional frozen invertebrates provide protein. Capoeta fusca is a robust, uncomplicated fish once its temperature and water hardness requirements are met.
