Devario annandalei

Devario annandalei is a large and powerful schooling devario from Myanmar and northern Thailand, where it inhabits open, moderately flowing rivers and larger streams. The body is elongated and streamlined, silver with a faint blue-gold iridescence along the flanks. Like all large devarios, it is a dedicated jumper and a securely fitted cover is non-negotiable. It needs a roomy tank—120 L as an absolute minimum—with substantial open swimming space and good water turnover. Despite its active, boisterous nature it is entirely peaceful with fish too large to be considered prey. Plant the back and sides of the tank heavily to provide visual security while keeping the central area open. Feed on good quality floating flakes, pellets, and a variety of frozen foods. Schools of five or more show the most impressive group behaviour.
