Devario devario

Devario devario, the Sind Danio or Bengal Danio, is one of the most widespread large devarios in South Asia, distributed across the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra drainages from Pakistan to Bangladesh. It is a bold, robust fish reaching up to 10 cm, with a body marked by a series of blue-silver and golden horizontal bands. In the wild it forms large, fast-moving schools in open river channels and canals. In the aquarium it needs a spacious tank of at least 100 L with substantial horizontal swimming space, good filtration, and a securely fitted lid, as all large devarios are enthusiastic jumpers. It is completely peaceful despite its size, and mixes well with medium-sized tetras, barbs, and larger corydoras. Feeding is undemanding: accepts flake, pellets, and frozen foods readily.
