Dicrozoster Eartheater (Orinoco)

Geophagus dicrozoster is a Venezuelan eartheater distinguished from its congeners by two distinct dark lateral spots positioned along the flanks. The Orinoco locality form displays particularly intense blue-green iridescence and is considered a standout among hobbyist eartheater collections. It remains relatively uncommon in the trade despite its exceptional appearance.

This species requires the usual eartheater setup of a spacious tank with deep fine sand, good filtration, and clean, slightly acidic water. Groups of five or more help prevent dominant males from fixating aggression on subordinates. Driftwood and leaf litter additions complement both the aesthetic and the fish's comfort.

Feeding is straightforward: sinking pellets, frozen invertebrates, and occasional live foods keep it in peak condition. Like all Geophagus, its sand-sifting behaviour is mesmerising to watch and a key part of its natural foraging strategy.
