Dimidiochromis compressiceps 'OB'

Dimidiochromis compressiceps 'OB' is a captive-developed orange-blotched color morph of the classic Malawi Eye-biter. The OB gene replaces the normal silvery base color with an irregular orange, black, and white mosaic pattern while retaining the species' characteristic extreme lateral compression — the body is remarkably thin when viewed head-on, an adaptation for stalking prey fish laterally and targeting their eyes.

The OB morph makes the species even more visually spectacular in the aquarium. While not found in the wild, the OB pattern is genetically stable and breeds true. The base temperament and care requirements are identical to the wild-type: this is a predatory species that should not be kept with fish small enough to be targeted.

This is a maternal mouthbrooder. The OB coloration is expressed in both males and females, though males develop deeper orange base color and longer fins. Provide a tank with open sandy areas and intermediate rocky zones. An excellent choice for a mixed-sex OB display pairing with OB Mbuna and OB Peacocks.
