Double Dark Angelfish

The Double Dark Angelfish is homozygous for the dark gene (D/D), resulting in an almost completely black-bodied fish with only the faintest silver highlights remaining on the anterior body and fin bases. This is the most melanin-saturated of all angelfish colour morphs, producing fish that appear nearly solid black in normal aquarium lighting.

Producing true double dark fish requires breeding two dark (heterozygous) or double dark parents, and only 25–100% of offspring (depending on the cross) will carry the double dark genotype. This relative scarcity and the dramatic appearance make them a sought-after strain.

Double dark angels are slightly less common than other strains but fully hardy. They are best displayed against light backgrounds where their dramatic black form creates maximum visual impact.
