Echinodorus 'Giraffe'

Echinodorus 'Giraffe' is a distinctive cultivar selected for its large, irregular brown-and-tan blotching on a mid-green leaf background — a pattern widely described as resembling giraffe markings. The blotches are larger and more geometric than the fine spots of the Ozelot series, giving the leaf surface a bold, graphic quality that is immediately striking even from a distance. Plants reach 25–40 cm, suited to midground placement in medium and large tanks.

The giraffe pattern is most pronounced on young leaves and under medium-to-bright light with consistent iron availability. Adequate iron supplementation helps maintain the contrast between the tan blotches and the green background tissue. Like most Echinodorus cultivars, it is tolerant of a wide range of water parameters and does not require CO2 injection for healthy growth.

The 'Giraffe' cultivar appeals strongly to aquarists who enjoy unusual leaf patterning as a design element in planted tanks. It is particularly effective as a single specimen focal point surrounded by plain green background plants where its unique markings draw the eye naturally.
