Echinodorus grisebachii 'Bleherae'

The 'Bleherae' variant of Echinodorus grisebachii is a broader-leaved selection that produces rosettes noticeably wider and more robust than the typical narrow chain sword form. It originates from the same floodplain habitats of tropical South America but has been cultivated and selected in the hobby for its fuller appearance. In aquariums it typically reaches 20–40 cm, occupying a midground niche while still spreading via runners at a moderate pace.

This cultivar adapts well to the same broad range of water parameters as the standard species and is equally forgiving of varying light levels and fertiliser regimes. Under medium lighting with root tabs it develops lush, rich-green rosettes that create a natural, bushy midground texture complementary to both hardscape and stem plants.

Its intermediate size makes it useful as a transitional plant between foreground carpets and taller background species, and it provides good cover for small and mid-sized bottom dwellers.
